Drive right onto a sand beach on Lake Powell and camp at the waterline.
Lone Rock is one of the few places in the country where you can drive a vehicle onto a beach, park at the water, and sleep there legally. The namesake rock sits a quarter mile offshore, and the water laps inches from your tires.
Why it's special
Camping ON the beach with the lake at your door is rare anywhere; doing it inside a National Recreation Area with a real bathhouse a quarter mile away is unheard of.
Best time to go
April–May and September–October. Summer is hot but the swimming is incredible.

Big Water, UT, off US-89. Follow signs to Lone Rock Beach, NPS entry fee applies.
Know before you go
- $30/vehicle for 7 days or use your America the Beautiful pass.
- $14/night camping fee on top of entry.
- Soft sand traps unprepared 2WDs — air down or stay near the road.
- Generator hours enforced; quiet hours after 10 PM.
