The Inyo NF runs the entire east side of the Sierra Nevada from south of Lone Pine to north of Mammoth. Dispersed camping is allowed in most areas, with stunning views of the Sierra crest right out the door.

Some of the highest, most dramatic mountains in the lower 48, plus the oldest trees on Earth — the bristlecones in the White Mountains, some over 4,000 years old.
Best time to go
June through September for the high country; year-round for lower elevations.

US-395 from Bishop to Lee Vining is the spine.

- Wildfire smoke can fill the valley quickly in late summer.
